Predating the Christian cross, the ankh is an Egyptian symbol, which represents a belief in eternal life. Resembling a loop with a cross at the bottom. Also known as "key of life," "the key of the Nile" or "crux ansata," The Ankh was the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic character that read "eternal life," "life," or "living." It is seen in much Egyptian art both ancient and modern. With Egyptian gods often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest. Unsurprisingly It is often referred to as the Egyptian cross. This sketch is available on most of zazzles customisable products.
