Tennessee State Capitol Nashville Tennessee Postcard

This postcard features the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville, Tennessee. It was designed by architect William Strickland (1788–1854) of Philadelphia and Nashville, it was built between 1845 and 1859. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 and, in 1971, it was named a National Historic Landmark. The tomb of James K. Polk, the 11th president of the United States, is on the capitol grounds. The statue is of attorney, politician and newspaperman, Edward Ward Carmack. Photo credit: Gary Todd, 2015.
