On March 15, 1952, while engaged in naval bombardment against North Korean positions, the USS Wisconsin (BB-64) received its first direct hit from a North Korean artillery battery. Fortunately, the damage was minimal, with only three sailors injured. In response, the Wisconsin retaliated with a powerful broadside from its nine 16-inch guns, effectively obliterating the enemy artillery position. Right after the shots were fired, a sister ship which was escorting Wisconsin flashed its signal lamp with the words, “Temper, temper,” before continuing on their way.
