Tartans originated in woven wool, but now they are made in many other materials. Tartan is particularly associated with Scotland. Scottish kilts almost always have tartan patterns.

I cant speak for how it holds up as a fully assembled skateboard. But I've had quite a few decks in my life and this seems solid. I'm using it fro a Twin Peaks art project. So far, it has been perfect! very smallJust a few whit marks in the black parts, Nothing serious. Very small defects.
