The full moon in January is called a wolf moon, because legend has it that wolves were hungry and active during colonial times right after the first of the year. You might hear them howling in the clear night with their silhouettes visible atop the snow cover. The reason for the unusually large size is that the Moon just happens to be at its closest approach to the Earth at the time of the full moon. That coincidence has the nickname of supermoon, truly a super moon. There are multiple supermoons in 2019, others occurring on February 19 and march 21.
