Molecular structure of cholesterol and triglycerides . Cholesterol is important and necessary for human health, but high levels of cholesterol in the blood is damaging to arteries and cause cardiovascular disease. Triglycerides are the most common form of fat. A triglyceride is an ester derived from glycerol and three fatty acids. They can be saturated or unsaturated (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated). A lipid profile blood test includes measuring the levels of these molecules together with HDL and LDL. Scientifically accurate.
