Still Life With Flowers in a Terracotta Vase Tapestry

Albertus Jonas Brandt (1787 – 1821) was a Dutch still life painter. He was the son of a book printer and seller. Brandt was a student of J. E. Morel but when Morel died in 1808 Brandt continued under the painter G. J. J. van Os who moved to France two years later. After va Os moved to France Brandt taught himself and went on to win prizes for his work and soon became famous painting dead game, fruit and flowers. Brandt died of tuberculosis in 1821 before completing “Flowers in a Terracotta Vase” but the work was later completed by Eelke Jelles Eelkema.
