Icarus was raised in captivity all of his life. Having grown up only knowin his father's not-so-roomy workshop, he did his best to imagine what the world might contain when he peered out their tower's small, singular window. When Icarus one day finds himself free, he finds it impossible to heed his father's warning--after all, his father had erringly gotten them caged to begin with, and Icarus was glad to have control over his life for the fisrt time. Many people tend to point out how Icarus paid for his mistakes, but I admire how he was able to libve first. The father-and-son story isn't simply instructing youth to listen to their elders. Remember it's a Greek tragedy. In these tales, according to Aristotle's thinking, you're not supposed to leave the story thinking Daedalus or Icarus wwas right or wrong. Tragedies, in reflecting our imperfect nature as human beings, bring about catharsis and, perhaps in this instance, a doleful sort of pondering over a life cut short.
