About This Design

St. Paul the Apostle (RLS 13)

St. Paul the Apostle (RLS 13)

St. Paul the Apostle (1st century) is widely regarded as the second founder of Christianity. Through his prolific writings and tireless travels, St. Paul pulled off one of the biggest public relations coups in history: he took a local, predominantly Jewish religious movement and promoted it among the Gentiles into a world religion. He was martyred at Rome c. 65 by beheading. His attributes are a book of his writings, the Epistles, and a sword, the instrument of his martyrdom. St. Paul is the patron saint of reporters, journalists, and public relations personnel. + Prefer a solid coloured background? Simply delete the tiled graphic. Solid colour recommendations appear below. + Image Source (RLS 13): Figural and ornamental details have been extracted from the antique image of St. Paul the Apostle in chromolithography with gilt accents illustrating the book Red Letter Saints: Being a Series of Biographies of those Saints for which Proper Collects, Epistles and Gospels are appointed in the Book of Common Prayer. Printed by E. Kaufmann, Lahr, Baden, Germany, for the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge / S.P.C.K. (London, 1911), p. 17. From the designer’s private library. + Feast: June 29 + Text is in dark red-brown (#460000) which matches the figure's outline. + The ‘Red Letter Saints’ palette is the same for all nineteen images from the book with minor variations. It consists of the following colours (with hex codes): cream (#FEEFBE), medium yellow (#F1D168), medium yellow-green (#999954), medium light aqua (#ACCBB1), medium dark aqua (#8CAC98), mauve (#E6BEA5), salmon pink (#FAAE8B), peach (#F5BD94), brownish orange (#E48B11), beige (#E8C6A1), dark gold (#87722E), and dark red-brown (#460000).
