St. George Rescues the Princess Ceramic Tile

St. George Rescues the Princess Ceramic Tile

Image Credit: St. George Rescues the Princess from a Fearsome Dragon, an oversized chromolithograph (No. 56) printed in Germany, original publisher unknown, from the designer's private collection of religious ephemera. + The extra-large format of the image suggests that it was printed for inclusion in a sumptuous late 19th-century folio Lives of the Saints. The bottom margin has the saint's name in French (ST. GEORGES), German (HLG. GEORG), English (ST. GEORGE), Spanish (S. JORGE), Italian (S. GIORGIO), and in the Cyrillic alphabet using several archaic letters not reproducible here. Suffice it to say, the Cyrillic transliterated into the 'modern' Church Slavonic script reads Святый Георгій Победоносец and means St. George the Victory-bearer (or, more colloquially, the Victorious). In Eastern Orthodoxy, this honorific title signifies St. George's victory over evil and his triumphant martyrdom. + Feast: April 23

Very happy when my tiles arrived. So good to be able to choose any photo for personal use. The colours are very clear and are far better than I expected.
