Some even smoke. They are small adults, and in number seem to take over a pool hall. In the past children worked on the streets or anywhere they would fit in, or fit into (small hands are great for working on sharp gears in machines). Some children worked for their family. Others did it for themselves because there were no allowances if you were poor. In this time there were no child labour laws, this photographer showed what it was like as a child and because of him, they added child labour laws. While most of his pictures involved often, dirty barefoot children working dirty jobs. Some were playful and fun like this one.
