An illustration from 1598 manuscript titled Splendour Solis depict the rebirth of the soul throught spiritual alchemy, a subject central to Rosicrucian thinking. Using the symbols of phsical alchemy, wich sought to turn base materials into gold, the artist shows a man emerging from mud as he enters the first stage of transformation. The queen in white represents the second stage, and the red head of the man, the final transmutation.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
