Sonny Rollins / John Coltrane / Jack McDuff Jazz Poster

Sonny Rollins / John Coltrane / Jack McDuff Jazz Poster

Sonny Rollins / John Coltrane / Jack McDuff Jazz Poster Print. John Coltrane 1962 Chicago Concert Poster w/Sonny Rollins, Jack McDuff. A jumbo window card advertising saxophone legend John Coltrane playing for three weeks at McKie's nightclub, "Chicago's Number 1 Jazz Room," from December 19, 1962 through the Christmas and New Year's holidays up to January 6, 1963. John Coltrane concert posters with his photo just don't exist, and the poster community is buzzing about this board surfacing recently with the jazz giant's pensive picture on it. It's on a par with last auction's 1959 Miles Davis concert poster with his photo on it as well, both incredibly rare and unprecedented. Trane is not third-billed here; notice the poster covers seven weeks of performances altogether, by three different headlining musicians. Jack McDuff gets the Thanksgiving stint; Sonny Rollins holds down two weeks in early December; and then Coltrane hosts "3 Weeks of Top Holiday Jazz!" following them. He was playing with his classic quartet of the time, comprising himself, McCoy Tyner on piano, Jimmy Garrison on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. One of the most influential saxophonists in jazz history, Trane was extremely prolific in this period. 1962 had seen the release of his first live album, Live! at the Village Vanguard, as well as Coltrane which featured Tyner, Garrison and Jones. 1963 would bring Duke Ellington & John Coltrane with Duke on piano, Ballads which later won the Grammy Hall of Fame Award, John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman which was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and Impressions, with a title track that featured Trane soloing for 15 minutes.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
