Born Isabella Baumfree, she was an activist for African-American civil rights, women's rights, and alcohol temperance. She escaped slavery with her infant daughter to freedom in 1826. This oil painting artwork depicts a younger version of the iconic Sojourner Truth, around the time she escaped to freedom (late twenties).
