Sir Banastre Tarleton Poster

Sir Banastre Tarleton Poster

Banastre Tarleton was a British military officer who played a prominent role during the American Revolutionary War. Born in 1754 in Liverpool, England, Tarleton joined the British Army at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks due to his courage and leadership on the battlefield. He is perhaps best known for his service as a cavalry commander in the British Legion, a unit of Loyalist soldiers. Under his leadership, the British Legion gained a reputation for ruthlessness and brutality in the southern theatre of the war, earning Tarleton the nickname "Bloody Ban" among American Patriots. Tarleton's most infamous engagement was the Battle of Waxhaws in South Carolina in 1780, where his forces clashed with American troops led by Abraham Buford. After the American surrender, Tarleton's men reportedly continued to attack and kill surrendering American soldiers, leading to accusations of war crimes. This event contributed to his reputation as a ruthless and controversial figure in the war. After the American Revolution, Tarleton returned to England and later entered politics, serving as a Member of Parliament. While his military career left a lasting legacy, it was marked by both admiration for his tactical skill and criticism for his brutal tactics during the conflict.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
