Siesta after Millet by Vincent Van Gogh Poster

Siesta (after Millet) by Vincent Van Gogh, oil on canvas 1890, is a painting of a farmer and his wife their afternoon nap in the shade of an enormous haystack in a wheat field, their shoes and reaping scythes in the foreground. A colour scheme of warm, sunny and subtle yellows, greens and oranges contrast with the vivid azure blue sky and contrasting cool grey tones. In the background a lone cow grazes, its hay wagon nearby. Van Gogh copied the composition from a painting by French Barbizon realist Jean-Francois Millet, one of many copies of the 19th century master that Van Gogh so much admired.
