This is an ancient martial art that came from China to Okinawa in 1372. Karate started out as a form of self protection due to the ban of all weapons in 1477. Karate means empty hand and this design is in honor of Karate’s rich history. Shotokan Karate was created by Gichin Funakosi from Okinawa and it is a traditional Japanese martial art. This unique design will always remind of the first three tenants of all martial arts every time you wear it; respect for the art, respect for the master, respect for yourself.
