The Shoshone formed loosely organised bands of buffalo hunters and warriors. Today, approximately 10,000 Shoshone members live on several reservations in Wyoming, Idaho, and Nevada. The largest reservation is the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming.
George Catlin was an American adventurer, lawyer, painter, author, and traveller, who specialised in portraits of Native Americans in the American Frontier. Travelling to the American West five times during the 1830s, Catlin wrote about and painted portraits that depicted the life of the Plains Indians. Born: July 26, 1796, Wilkes-Barre, PA Died: December 23, 1872, Jersey City, NJ.
