About This Design

Shiny Tuba Slanted Perspective Brass Band

Shiny Tuba Slanted Perspective Brass Band

This colourful shiny tuba is part of a Portugeuse brass band from Montreal, Canada, who are visiting the local Portuguese community in Hull (Gatineau) Quebec. This image is great to send to friends and family, music lovers, music teacher or student, tuba players, anyone who enjoys marching bands, brass bands, brass instruments and tubas in particular. The metal brass is a combination of copper and zinc. It has a lovely golden glow and is often polished to a warm patina. You can see reflections of people, trees and houses in the flared bell of the tuba. A bit of Tuba Trivia for Tubaholics - invented in the early nineteenth century, the tuba is the largest and lowest-pitched musical instrument in the brass family. It's also classified as a wind instrument or aerophone. A person who plays a tuba is known as a tubaist or tubist in America; in the UK, one who plays tuba in an orchestra is a tuba player; in a brass band, a bass player. The bass tuba was invented by a pair of Prussians (northern Germany) in 1835; the tenor tuba by the son of one of the original inventors, in 1838.

A large segment of Hull's population is Portugeuse Catholic. This brass band was part of a procession bearing a statue of Virgin Mary; they walked around several blocks and then back to the church. The church is right across the park from my place so I get to hear the lively chimes of bells every Sunday, and some other days too. Original musical photography by M Sylvia Chaume, Quebec, Canada.

Lovely quality cards. Nice to get a real traditional Chrismassy theme in Australia, not the beach and Australian animals stuff. Excellent, would use again
