The tuba was patented in Prussia (soon to be Germany) in 1835, and the son of one of the inventors patented the tenor tuba three years later. Thus it's no surprise that tubas feature prominently in German Oktoberfest and polka music. Oompah, oompah. However, this is a Portuguese marching band in town from Montreal, Quebec, for a ceremonial procession. Tubas are generally made of brass, an alloy of copper and tin, which polishes up to a nice warm glow.
