Shinjuku Angel - I went to Japan a few months back (had a FANTASTIC time) - and was struck by the hyper urban style and energy of Tokyo. We had a great night out in Shinjuku which is a crazy nightspot by the busiest trainstation in the world. This inspired this painting - "Shinjuku Angel" - I've always thought that urban faeries and angels would hang out around the human crossroads of trainstations. This was fun to paint - all that neon! Shinjuku Angel looks a little overwhelmed, a little lost - but dressed to the hilt and with a great attitude - reflections of Shinjuku itself. I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
