Each star on these pins represent a state where women could vote. States could pass laws to allow women in their state to vote even if it wasn't federal law. The 19th Amendment made it legal in all states for women to vote whether they passed state laws or not. Mississippi finally ratified the 19th Amendment in 1984! This 9 star pin represents the number of states in which women had full suffrage at the time it was made: Wyoming (1869), Colorado (1893), Utah (1896), Idaho (1896), Washington (1910), California (1911), Kansas, Oregon and Arizona (all 1912)
