Hamoud Boualem is a noted Algerian soft drink manufacturing company, producing fizzy drinks popular in Algeria and exported to France, the United Kingdom, and Canada, mainly for consumption by Algerian emigrants. Founded in 1878 with the building of its first factory in the Belcourt neighbourhood of Algiers, it is among the country's oldest companies. Their products include sodas such as "Selecto", "Hamoud", "Slim" (in various flavours), and various flavours of sirop. Their head offices are located at 201 rue Hassiba Ben Bouali, Algiers. In Algeria, its market share of 20% is roughly level with that of Cola (23%) and Pepsi (18%), as of 2005. Algeria (Formal Arabic: الجزائر, al-Jazā’ir; Amazigh: Dzayer), officially the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, is a country located in North Africa. In terms of land area, it is the largest country on the Mediterranean Sea, the second largest on the African continent[6] after Sudan, and the eleventh-largest country in the world.[7] Algeria is bordered by Tunisia in the northeast, Libya in the east, Niger in the southeast, Mali and Mauritania in the southwest, a few kilometres of the Moroccan-controlled Western Sahara in the southwest, Morocco in the west and northwest, and the Mediterranean Sea in the north. Its size is almost 2,400,000 km2 with an estimated population near to 35,000,000. The capital of Algeria is Algiers. Algeria is a member of the United Nations, African Union, OPEC. It also contributed towards the creation of the Maghreb Union.
