The ferocious Armstrong Clan of the Anglo-Scottish Border is associated with two family properties dating from the early 1500s - Mangerton and Gilnockie in Dumfries and Galloway of southwest Scotland. Both have fallen to ruins with only Gilnockie Tower remaining, and that because of a 1978 renovation. Gilnockie was the home of a famous outlaw Border Reiver Johnnie Armstrong.
