In addition to the 350 young orphans at OFI's care centre, OFI plants trees to restore destroyed areas of the rainforest, rescues orangutans, maintains feeding stations for orangutans being reintroduced into the wild, and works to educate people about the importance of natural resources. Information about my photo on the tote: This mother orangutan, whose name is Akmad, was rescued by O.F.I in the early 1970' s and has blessed the rain forest with several babies born in the wild such as her latest son, shown here at Camp Leakey in Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. Akmad and Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas appeared on the cover of National Geographic magazine in October 1975. In my photo here, the blue behind Akmad's shoulder is a door on a Camp Leakey building.
