Salvator Mundi by Leonardo da Vinci circa 1500 Pos Postcard

Salvator Mundi by Leonardo da Vinci circa 1500 Pos Postcard

Salvator Mundi by Leonardo da Vinci circa 1500 Postcard ... Leonardo's traditional vision of Christ appearing out of the darkness as the Saviour of the World. Oil and lapis lazuli on walnut panel. This is the art work that broke all sales records at auction in November 15, 2017 for unbelievable $450.3 million! Discovered in near absolute ruin with heavy over-painting and being over 500 years old, it was known to be from Leonardo's workshop, though then thought to had been mostly by his workshop apprentice boys ... but, then was cleaned and dramatically restored and discovered to be much by Leonardo's own hand. Leonardo's workshop was known to have had produced a number of traditional Salvator Mundi oil on wood panels. Leonardo's workshop apprentice boys transferred his drawings onto prepared white coated wood panels by poking holes along the drawn lines. This art work shows Leonardo's famed soft hazy sfumato style. Leonardo is known to have used his own hands to blend paint to soften line edges. Palm prints are seen on this painting. The details reflect the preparatory sketches found in his journals, especially the complex geometric design of the leather strapping. The hands and mouth also reflect Leonardo's preparatory sketches as well as his other known paintings. The robe paint consists of rare imported lapis lazuli that then was more expensive than gold that only Leonardo's wealthy patrons could afford ... the patron believed here to be the king of France. The painting passed from the kings of France to the kings of England by marriage of a French princess to an English king. Leonardo da Vinci was given a home in his final years by a king of France ... the home being connected by tunnel to the king's palace so that the king could visit and check on Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo lived there with one of his workshop apprentices and young companion the Count Francesco Melzi who though of noble birth devoted his life to caring for Leonardo and to preserving Leonardo's journals some which are now in possession of the collection of the Queen of England. Lapis Lazuli is a blue mineral stone imported then, as now, from the area now called Afghanistan. It is the same rare stone used in the ancient Egyptian pure gold burial mask of boy Pharaoh King Tutankhamun for the dark blue eye liner and brows (the matching colour stripes of the Nemes headdress are of Ancient Egyptian glass). Lapis Lazuli blue oil paint was also used in the blue robe of the Virgin Mary by Renaissance painters for their wealthier patrons. Salvator Mundi paintings traditionally were frontal portraits with Christ's right hand raised in the Blessing and Christ's left hand holding a globe representing the World (or, alternately, the Heavenly crystal sphere believed to contain the World). Leonardo chose to not paint in a golden halo, wanting Christ to seem to appear as a vision out of the darkness. The face is softly painted. The nearer Blessing hand is more defined as Leonardo tried for a more three dimensional quality through atmospheric effects as he was renown for. Leonardo was left-handed and gay, artistic, and scientific minded. He studied light and shadow and atmospheric effects, human proportion, and the geometric proportion then called the Divine Proportion we call the Golden Proportion or Golden Ratio. He illustrated his friend Luca Pacioli's book De Divina Proportione. Please like, share, buy. Way better quality than I ever expected. I love the colours, font and quality of the card. I'm so pleased I found Zazzle as it is near impossible to purchase Vintage or Retro Australian memorabilia online. I chose this design when I purchased them. They are perfect for my projects. I was very specific about what I wanted. I know where to come now when I need to order similar items.

Perfect for the occasion I was using it for. I was able to delete the lines so I could put in more wording. Had an envelope so the address side wasn't necessary. Print quality and paper quality lovely.
