Saint Rose of Lima Notebook

Saint Rose was a Spanish colonist in Lima, Peru and a lay member of the Dominician Order. Rose wanted to become a nun but her father forbade it. She was devoted to the care of the needy and known for leading a life of severe asceticism. She lived in the family home and allowed herself two hours of sleep a night, devoting many hours to prayer. She sold flowers and needlework to care for the poor and emulated Christ by wearing a silver crown upon her head with small spikes on the inside. On April 12, 1671 she became the first person in the Americas to be canonised.
