Saint Jacques-sur-Coudenberg , the church of St James is the most characteristic building of the Royal Square. The Neo-Classic Corinthian columns remind to a Roman temple, not a Catholic church. The archbishop of Brussels erected it to thank to the king his election. The church was constructed between 1773 and 1778. The first king of Belgium took the constitutional oath here.
