Saint Bernard's Dream (1823)by Joseph von Fuhrich Saint Bernard Bernard of Clairvaux, O. Cist., venerated as Saint Bernard, was an abbot, mystic, co-founder of the Knights Templar, a major leader in the reformation of the Benedictine Order. He was a powerful preacher and is to have performed miracles, especially in healing the sick. His reputation attracted great crowds of pilgrims to Clairvaux which soon became the most important of the Cistercian monasteries. Born:1090, Fontaine-lès-Dijon, France Died: August 20, 1153 Joseph von Führich was an Austrian painter and one of the Nazarenes a group of German artists founded in 1809. Their aim was to regenerate the purity of the early Renaissance.
