S. S. Northwestern Memorial Plaque Postcard

The S. S. Northwestern was moored by the east end of Bunker Hill and used as housing for civilian workers who came to Dutch Harbour, Alaska during WWII. The ship was damaged beyond use when Unalaska Island was bombed by the Japanese. Eventually the partially sunken ship was moved to the south end of Captain's Bay and declared a historical site. The propeller was removed and placed in the Memorial Park of the City of Unalaska along with this plaque mounted on a section of the ship's hull. Unalaska Island served as the centre of operations during the Campaign of the Aleutians.
