【Maru ni Ue no Ji】 Crest / This design is based on "Heian Monkan" and "Mon Den". / The reason why the character "ue" was chosen for the crest is not only because it has the meaning of upward development, but also because many of the crests that use this character have the character in their surname. (From "Nihon Monshogaku" by Norizuke Numata) / The indicative meaning refers to a crest that is mainly based on a surname, and is a crest that can be identified by its shape. (ibid. P45) / "Ue" character is a crest that has both auspicious and indicative meanings, representing "being on top" and indicating a surname that uses the character "ue". (Furigana and kanji are as in the original text: "Kamon no Jiten" by Takasawa et al.) / It is also called "Agejo" as opposed to "Sagejo".
