"Don't complain that the rose bush is full of thorns; be happy that the thorn bush is full of roses" - German proverb, with beautiful bright pink wild roses in front of an old house. This is one of my favourite quotes. It has been attributed to many people, including the Buddha and Abraham Lincoln, and can also be written in any number of ways; it is widely known as a German proverb, coming into use by the late 1800s, but may have originated earlier than that. Roses are symbols of love, affection, beauty (physical and of the soul), the literary arts, grace, memories and eternity, and are prized for their delicate beauty and fragrance. Pink roses can represent gratitude, admiration and happiness. Pink is an emotionally refreshing colour often associated with romance. The deeper pink, the greater the passion. Soft pinks attune to the gentle virtues such as kindness, modesty, compassion, romantic love, while bright pinks stimulate the imagination. Pink helps to energise and harmonise body and mind. This inspiring quote asks us to look on the bright side of life - see the positives, cultivate happy thoughts in your garden of love, and don't let negative thinking drag you down. Be bright, optimistic, happy, celebrate the beauty of living in this wonderful world, where miracles blossom all around you, and good things come to you when you open your heart to abundance. About the pic: I took this and many other photographs of this fabulous rose bush growing on a median between the sidewalk and the street in an older neighbourhood in the city of Gatineau (Hull) Quebec, Canada. Behind the rosebush is an old red brick heritage house with pale yellow painted balcony. The roses are not regularly tended and growing in wild abandon, quite a happy rose bush, and there are some weeds sprouting around them. The bush is flourishing with flowers, bedecked with bountiful blossoms and rose buds in many varying shades of pink. In fact I've never seen so many gorgeous big roses as this year! You can't see many thorns in this pic - but you can be sure there are plenty on the lower branches. I stepped blithely into them and got a sudden awakening :) But it's worth it for the opportunity to photograph such fabulous beauties!
