'Rimming' Poster

Linking loops of glass rings, the knot of this portion of a fractal reflecting in green mist. A fractal is simply a repeating pattern, where scale is irrelevant. Think of it a bit like a mosaic with infinite zoom. No matter how close or far you go, you'll see the same thing. Fractals occur in nature, but they also fascinate those in math, programming, and art. There are many simple programs now that can make them, but it's not automatic. The artist needs to experiment, use their own skills at math and programming, and finally, it's most like photography. I programmed the space, the mist, the rings and their surface properties, and how many times they would repeat, among many other bits. Since the fractal formed in 3D space, I was able move around it and through it, and finally capture this image that caught me, this elegant knot of glass rings. © 2004 Marlo Dianne.
