Resignation Emperor Charles V in Brussels

"Allegory on the Abdication of Emperor Charles V in Brussels" depicts the abdication (the formal act of stepping down a type of resignation.) of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. In the painting, Charles V is seated on his throne, flanked by his successors Ferdinand I and Philip II. Charles V gave his brother Ferdinand the Holy Roman Empire, while his son Philip became King of Spain and Lord of the Netherlands. The four figures in the right foreground personify the continents over which Charles's empire stretched. Neptune on the left symbolises his power at sea. Charles V abdicated the throne in 1556. His ill health, particularly his decades-long battle with gout, was a factor in his decision to abdicate.

This was exactly what was wanted for my piano crazy grandson! He is self taught & is now having lessons by a top teacher and has been asked to play at various venues in the US!
