Reclining woman, Egon Schiele 24W x 15H Poster

Reclining woman with green stockings, Egon Schiele. Austrian artist Egon Schiele'was greatly influenced by Gustav Klimt the leader of the Vienna Secessionist art movement. Like Klimt, Schiele's work had a strong Art Nouveau influence coupled with a vibrant eroticism. Upon Klimt's death, Schiele became the dominant force in Austrian art. His work is starker, less decorative, more strongly expressionist than Klimt's. High society did not flock to him for portraits. As a young student he led a group of artists to withdraw from the academy, perceived as rigid, and form their own group, the Neuekunstgruppe or New Art Group, in 1909. He attracted the admiration and support of Klimt and his colleagues during before start of the Great War. Although inducted into the Army in 1916 he produced all of his mature works during the last two years of the first World War, even as he held an army post in what was a backwater of the war. Egon Schiele, 28, followed his wife in death due to Spanish influenza in the fall of 1918, just as the war was ending.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs. it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning! The print is precise, clear and of an excellent standard. It was cleverly packaged so there wasn’t a blemish or crease. Perfect!
