Raphael Sanzio, Usually known only by his first name, was an Italian painter and architect and one of the masters of the high renaissance. He was an extremely prolific artist painting portraits and religious works on canvas as well as frescoes, including the four central reception rooms in the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican.
