The hunter Ralph Lambton is sitting on his horse with his hunting hound dogs all around getting ready for a fox hunt. About the artist: James Ward (1769-1859) was a British painter, particularly of animals. He was regarded as one of the great animal portrait painters of his time, James produced history paintings, portraits and landscapes.
