Rainbow Baby Ornament

I created this painting from an ultrasound picture while pregnant. It may be the most special piece I've ever painted because it represents my Rainbow Baby after a miscarriage. In the centre you will see a foetus surrounded by darkness, and subtle glow, as in the unknown space of the universe and its many stars. Form there it spirals out with expressionist brush strokes depicting a storm, which is the feeling that followed the tragic news of the loss. They say "After every storm, there's a rainbow," and after some time I was blessed with a another pregnancy. It was a smooth pregnancy all the way through and resulted in a beautiful healthy baby boy. However during the nine months I felt so many emotions... joyful, grateful, scared, hopeful... not knowing how long I would to enjoy the moment. In the painting, a rainbow stems from the baby in the womb and swirls back into the the universe. The heartbreak of the loss never fades, and there is also no end to the love I feel for them. To the best of my ability I attempted to meld all of these feelings into this painting.
