Gallery label from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York: "Late in his career, Gérôme turned to the medium of sculpture. Between 1890 and 1893, he executed both sculpted and painted variations on the theme of Pygmalion and Galatea, as the tale is recounted in Ovid's "Metamorphoses." All of those works depict the moment when the sculpture of Galatea was brought to life by the goddess Venus, in fulfilment of Pygmalion's wish for a wife as beautiful as the sculpture he created. In 1890, Gérôme commented that he had "just begun" a painting of Pygmalion and Galatea. This is one of three known versions in oil of the subject, all likely based on the plaster model of a lifesize marble sculpture (Hearst Castle, San Simeon, California). In each painting, the sculpture appears at a different angle, as though it was being viewed in the round."

I was at a New Years Eve gathering when I first saw this print and fell in love! I asked where the home owner bought the print and it was somewhere in Spain for a crazy amount. I was so pleased to find it online with the option of printing it on canvas. I bought it in a 11x14 print and put it in a frame with matting ($16 purchase) and it looks just as good (if not better) than the origional one I saw! I am very pleased and now wish I had ordered a bigger canvas but other than that it was a perfect buy. Printing was great, much better than expected. I did not want to order too big because I was scared the quality of the print wouldn't be as good but now regret it. Quality is amazing on the one I purchased.

This is as good as it gets!!!! I looked for this 'poster' and found ZAZZLE had it on canvas YAHOO.. it is beautiful and Michaels framed it.. SO NICE.
