PTSD is a wound that no one can see until the effects of the wound show and then we feel like we have to be ashamed of it but PTSD awareness is growing and you can help by wearing this supportive T-Shirt that gets people to ask questions. PTSD also isn't just for soldiers. It's common among heroes of the armed forces, yes, but PTSD can happen to anyone that has suffered a traumatic experience whether that domestic violence, a violent attack, a horrific accident, or a terrifying event of any kind. When I mention to most people that I have PTSD they often ask "What branch did you serve in?", automatically assuming that if I have PTSD I must be former military and other people just look at me like I'm being dramatic because I obviously don't look like I've ever served (which I haven't).
