From 1926, at the height of prohibition and the roaring twenties a BOOTLEGGERS MAP of the U. S.
This unique map spoofing prohibition, by Edward McCandlish is filled with puns; nothing is sacred in this hilarious look at alcohol and prohibition.
Many place names are plays on words, like Chi-keg-o, Tus-Keg-ee, Mash-ville, Albu-Corky, Scotch Bluff, Booze (Boise), etc. The pints of the compass are Norse, Wets, Yeast, and Souse.
McCandlish was a prominent illustrator for the children's page in many newspapers in the 1920's and 1930's, making this parody a radical departure for him.
A wonderful piece of Americana that beautifully captures the humour and mood of the public during that epic dry era.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!

Absolutely superb Art Deco poster. The colours are vibrant, sympathetic to the era and perfect for use. I framed it and hung above the entrance to my Art Deco inspired lounge room. Stunning!
