Given their large size and sharp, long and large bills, Sandhill Cranes are surprisingly approachable and often demand to be handfed at the local wildlife sanctuary. Unlike ducks and geese, though, they are quite orderly, forming a single line as they take their turns at the proffered seed. I have never seen any squabbling when it's feeding time! Photographed in mid-January 2017 in Ladner.
