"Prescott Courthouse" "Prescott AZ Courthouse" Poster

The courthouse is the centerpiece of the “Prescott Town Square”. Constructed of local Granite quarried from Miller Valley. It was cleaved from the quarry in 40-50 tonne blocks without explosives. Each block was then taken to finishing sheds where they were cut and shaped according to exact specification and a number painted on each to identify its proper placement. The project was completed in 1918 and was the third and current courthouse. In 1977 the courthouse was added to the “National Register of Historic Places”. In 1986 an engraved and painted timeline was created in the walkway to the courthouse showing a chronological history of important dates. It forms a long U shape topped by a compass rose and often bordered by two rows of Arizona Flags. At the base of the steps is a bronze statue of “Captain Bucky O’Neill”, a local resident who was one of Teddy Roosevelt's “Rough Riders”. Today, the courthouse grounds are a favored destination for locals and visitors, who enjoy leisurely strolls, picnics, walking dogs, art fairs, community events and free concerts with dancing at the courthouse steps through the summer.
