The Sontag Brothers were accomplished train robbers in California. After several gunfights with the Law, their notoriety garned the largest manhunt in California history. Marshall George Gard, his posse, 300 armed civilians, and a bunch of bounty hunters scoured the San Joaquin Valley for the desperados, finally cornering them in a cabin and thus ensued the Gunfight at Stone Corral.
John Sontag, shown wounded in the photo, was taken into custody and died a few days later. His accomplice was captured and did a lengthy term at Folsom Prison.

I hung this in the stairwell of our house, near some other Renoir pictures. My daughter says it looks like she is looking at her when she walks up the stairs.
it's called "The Excursionist", she is holding a walking stick. Renoir was an impressionist, I don't think this is an actual person. The finished framed picture arrived and looks better than the online pic - Beautiful!
