About This Design

Portuguese sardines jigsaw puzzle

Portuguese sardines jigsaw puzzle

Portugal has always been a country of sailors and fishermen. When thinking of travelling to Portugal we can’t miss thinking of the sea and Portuguese cuisine's tasty fish recipes. Sardines, (Sardina Pilchardus) tunas and codfish are some of the most noteable species at the Portuguese table. The Portuguese sardine has become an icon and very popular summer food and a usual presence at tables in summer festivities. Sardines are the typical dish at Santos Populares Lisbon Street Popular Festival or São João, in Porto, and also Figueira da Foz. Summer is the season for "sardinhada": grilled sardines, accompanied by boiled potatoes, broa (cornbread), and a salad of tomato and grilled green pepper. Canned sardines are even more popular worldwide. It all started in Vila Real de Santo António in 1865. The century-old canning fish tradition is still going on today. Sardines belong not only in culinary but also in décor objects and souvenir shops, especially along the coast. In this illustration, colourful sardines are decorated with colourful hearts and flowers you can find in embroidered popular Minho pieces. "Vivinha da costa! ( Fresh from the coast) is an ancient shout for women who sold, an still sell, sardines in streets or markets. You can change the background colour in this product and the font, font colour, and message written. You can offer this to any Portuguese or Portuguese descendant, sister, mother, girlfriend, friend, or anyone who wants to have a taste of Portugal!
