About This Design

Pondering Persephone; Notecard

Pondering Persephone; Notecard

A notecard featuring the piece "Pondering Persephone" from the Goddess Within collection on the front, and the following story about the Goddess on the back: ""Think Spring." That's what they tell you during the cold, bleak months of winter, right? Perhaps they should say to think about Persephone, Greek Goddess of the Underworld and, in an indirect way, the bringer of seasons, instead. She was the daughter of Demeter, Goddess of crops & harvest, and when Hades, God of the Underworld, snatched the beautiful Persephone away to be his bride, Demeter became so depressed that the crops died and the world became bleak and dark. Zeus (Persephone’s father & Hades’ brother) finally got her back but, as she had eaten some forbidden fruit (pomegranate seeds to be exact) while in the Underworld, she had to return for several months every year. And every year, Demeter became so depressed at her daughter's leaving that winter covered the land. So the next time you have spring fever while surrounded by snow drifts, spare a thought for Persephone, whiling away her days in the Underworld until she can return once more to the Spring."

A beautiful card. Highest quality materials and print. Misunderstood the explanation of the gold accent. I took it as the design would be metallic in its appearance. Still a lovely card and I am extremely happy with it overall. Perfect, only that I expected the gold to be metallic.
