Playa de los Pocitos and the Rambla, Montevideo, Uruguay. The Pocitos barrio is known for its beach, Playa Pocitos, and the Rambla, or boulevard, that lies alongside it. Pocitos is chraacterised by its apartment buildings of 10 to 15 stories that lie right on the Rambla providing excellent views of the barrio, the beach, and the river. Along the Rambla can be found many chic and fancy restaurants and shops which attract many people not only from other Barrios of Montevideo but also those from neighbouring Argentina and Brazil. Montevideo is the capital and largest city of Uruguay. The city was established in 1724 by a Spanish soldier, Bruno Mauricio de Zabala, as a strategic move amidst the Spanish-Portuguese dispute over the platine region. The southernmost capital city in the Americas, Montevideo is situated in the southern coast of the country, on the northeastern bank of the Río de la Plata.
