Pink Roses in Green Vase

These intoxicatingly fragrant roses came from a climbing rose bush in perfect bloom on a sunny June day in Chicago. This poster was created from my original oil painting, which highlights the roses through heavy, highly textured paint application in several shades of pink and red. Yellow strokes blended into the vase hint at the roses' stems while suggesting the midafternoon sunshine that filtered through the green glass when this painting was created. Touches of pink in the lavender background as well as thick strokes of light pink in the back of the table, of green to the right of the vase, and of darker pink in the foreground help harmonise and unify this piece because they repeat the colours in the flowers and the vase.
