Sitting on a small crooked shelf, a row of empty jars sits. At one time they probably had tinctures of some kind. A tincture is a concentrated herbal extract made of bark, leaves, root and other plants that has a base of vinegar or alcohol. In its day they used it to make medicine, or other goods. But now it stands empty, which is probably just as well, since that shelf simply isn't straight.
