Pernambuco pygmy-owl poster

The Pernambuco pygmy-owl is probably the rarest owl on earth, and possibly extinct, though I hope not. Its only known range is the northeastern state of Brazil known as Pernambuco. Very little is known about this owl apart from the reason its so rare, or extinct is due to (yeah you guessed it) habitat loss. One of these owls was observed eating a cicada which is all that is known about the diet of this rare owl. There is no information about its breeding habits or anything else really. It has been noted that the song is a short phrase of 5-7 notes with each note rising in pitch. It has also been noted that they are vocally active in April and May during the rainy season.
